027 Modern TV's have most of their settings set by software.
028 To get in the so-called "service mode" there are two options available for
029 Philips TV's:
030 Option 1:
031 In the TV-set itself is a 3-pin connector with which either SERVICE-DEFAULT or
032 SERVICE-MODE can be activated.
033 For the MG3.1E chassis this connector is depicted 0356 (SERVICE-PINS) on
034 page K7 (TXT&CONTROL). Shorting pins 1-2 will activate SERVICE-MODE.
035 Shorting pins 2-3 will activate SERVICE-DEFAULT.
036 IMPORTANT NOTE:
037 using the service pins will disable any software security feature
038
039 Option 2:
040 Activate these modes using the remote control.
041 Obviously option 2 is the preferred method because the settings have to be
042 changed using a remote control anyway....
043
044
045 To activate SERVICE-DEFAULT:
046 Press 0 6 2 5 9 6 and then the [menu] button
047 The message "Service Default" appears and channel "SER T" will be selected.
048 This only sets some settings to a preset value (channel/color/brightness/volume and such).
049 This mode is primarily intended to set things to a predefined state for servicing.
050 Measurements/adjustments are usually carried out with service default active.
051 You can exit the service default mode by placing the TV into standby
052 (not through the mains switch).
053
054
055 To activate SERVICE-MODE:
056 Press 0 6 2 5 9 6 and then the [i+] button
057 (Note: the [i+] button is also known as [OSD] or [STATUS] button.
058
059
060 After pressing 0 6 2 5 9 6 the message "Dealer" should have appeared.
061
062
063 Other codes which seem to work:
064 0 1 6 2 5 9 6
065 0 3 6 2 5 9 6
066 0 4 6 2 5 9 6
067 0 7 6 2 5 9 6
068 0 8 6 2 5 9 6
069
070
071 These alternative codes have just an additional number after the '0'.
072 The additional number is any number which was not part of the 'original' code.
073 More precisely: the number following the '0' can be repeated multiple times,
074 so 0 1 1 1 6 2 5 9 6 is also acceptable.
075
076
077 Note: press the numbers not faster (or slower) than you would normally do
078 if you had to press multiple numbers.
079 Do not worry about the channel changing while you press the numbers.
080 Tip from Jan Christiaan van Winkel: if you switch to Teletext mode before
081 entering the service code then the channel changing won't take place.
082 You even have some visible feedback of the numbers you are entering.
083
084
085 Service technicians have the means of entering service mode using a
086 Special remote control. So, if above method does not work, and you
087 happen to own a programmable remote control (like the Pronto) then
088 you might be helped with the remote control codes themselves: go to
089 the TV: Service Mode (remote control codes) section for these.
090 If you don't own a programmable remote but want to build your own:
091 go to the Projects: Remote control page.
092 There is an extremely simple one, consisting of just a resistor and
093 infrared LED and with software to control it
094
095
096 It has been pointed out to me, by someone named Martin, that entering the
097 service default mode by these methods would disable the Protection system
098 and could therefore put you at risk of harming yourself. Unfortunately he
099 didn't go into more detail on why or how.
100 However, be warned that if you use the service pins to access service mode
101 all software security features ARE typically switched OFF
102
103
104
105 The service mode menu will look something like this:

122 Every TV has it's specific settings (especially the geometry).
123 So, everyone is invited to send in his, or hers, list of settings for their
124 television.
125 Even if the model is already in the list  There are a lot of readers which are
126 helped with a list of settings which they can use as a starting point.
127
128
129 Notes:
130 Please note that **every** TV has it's own individual settings.
131 Even if the TV is from the same production line.
132 Options (and also the option bytes) are hardware specific and should not
133 be changed (they reflect the actual hardware).
134 Since these hardware settings are typically only read when the TV is powered up
135 (using the mains switch), it means that these settings have to be stored prior
136 to this. If such a hardware setting is not correct (eg. you changed it yourself)
137 then the TV might get into protection.
138 Since you won't be able to see anything on screen anymore it is difficult to
139 correct this. One of the options is to replace or clear the EEPROM
140 (first make a backup of the original settings...).
1403 INT BLANK SCRN SERVICE SWITCH S301.
141 If the TV recognizes a new EEPROM it should start up with factory default settings....

182 Geometry alignments:
183 When convergence or geometry alignments are to be carried out take the following hints in consideration.
184 Have the TV set warmed up for at least 20 minutes.
185 When adjusting, sit in front of the TV about 1.5 .. 3 meters away from the screen. Make sure you are at eye level with the area on the screen you are adjusting.
186 Because an alignment in one area of the screen affects other areas on the screen, you need to perform several 'passes' through the whole sequence of adjusting to get the desired result. Adjust the parameters in the same order as they are presented on

457 *2 This MG3.1 software is not 100% backwards compatible with older versions. It replaces:

459 2031
460 2041
461 *3 This new software is not compatible with old versions MG31E11.2_02041, MG31E11.3_02081 and MG31E11.4_02141.
461 2081
462 2141
462 This is why, when one replaces these old softwares by the new one, it is necessary to unsolder straps 4400 and 4401, and to assemble them in position 4402 and 4403.
463 2161
463 In this way, the FBX is connected to fast bus I2C, which is essential for this software.
464 Using the new software requires removing of jumper 4400 and 4401, and making jumper 4402 and 4403.
464 Using this software (or a higher version) requires setting Option Byte 8 (2nd line, last byte) from 00000 into 0000x (see table).
465
465 From software 2161 onwards these jumpers are factory set.

497 This pages shows, some, remote control codes which are used to access service mode for Philips and Beko televisions.
498 If you have a Philips TV you might have succeeded in accessing service mode using the codes mentioned on the Matchline service mode page. If you did not succeed (your TV is probably an older type/software), then there is an alternative method which is

503 Building your own programmable remote control
505 If you don't have a programmable remote then you might be interested into building it yourself. The Projects: Remote control makes it possible. It contains very little components and is very easy to build. It also contains a basic explanation on how t

509 See one of the tables below for a picture and the codes generated by this remote. This remote control is the successor of the SERVICE PROFESSIONAL remote control which has less keys but has otherwise the same functionality.
510 For BEKO televisions there is also a service tool available from Perfect Electronica at www.perfect.nu, for about Euro 40,-. See one of the tables below for more on this remote.

514 Pronto owners (the Pronto is a programmable remote control) have the means of entering these remote control codes directly. However, this will not always work. The reason for this is, probably, timing issues. These remote control codes must follow eac

517 Remote control codes sequence: RC5 10 26, RC5 16 7, RC5 21 92, RC5 31 4
518 This should present the user with a password access screen (but it does not ). However, if we create a 'learned code' sequence of these codes (with some care) then the TV will respond.
519 To create such a 'learned code' sequence you can use the < RC5PRONTO (206 kb) program. This program generates 'learned' code of multiple RC5 codes with a definable delay inbetween them.

764 PW9525 Lock remote RC5 28 35 25 This 'locks' the TV so it will not accept any remote control codes. You need to turn the TV off to reverse it.
765 The mechanical controls on the TV itself keep functioning.
766 The reason is simple: since this is part of a FL1 sequence it expects more codes... Tested with a PW9525 and Pronto.
